18-year-old Joseph Treakle arrested in connection to shooting that killed 14 year-old Daquan Mayo

Richmond police have disclosed the apprehension of a suspect linked to a shooting incident resulting in the death of a 14-year-old Daquan Mayo.

Authorities reveal the arrest of Joseph Treakle, an 18-year-old resident of Richmond.

He faces charges of attempted robbery resulting in serious injury or death, with additional charges pending, according to the police.

At 10:54 p.m. on March 31, Richmond police received a report of a shooting in the 1400 block of Front Street, situated in the North Highland Park neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers found a 14-year-old male juvenile lying unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Despite being transported to a hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Officials from Richmond Public Schools have confirmed that the victim was a student at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.
