Washington Navy Yard Manhunt: Police in Pursuit of Armed Suspect Reportedly Hiding in the Illume Building

Update: The area around the Navy Yard is now clear after the earlier manhunt. Residents can enter buildings and use alleyways again, though there’s still a light police presence. Stay alert and safe, everyone.

The Navy Yard suspect’s vehicle has been confiscated by the police.

A witness reported observing the individual remove something from the top passenger side of the hood before entering the vehicle. Shortly after, police motorcycles encircled him before he fled. There were no sightings of a firearm, and the suspect did not flee quickly.

Law enforcement pursued a suspect who is possibly armed and barricaded inside the Illume Building near I St, close to New Jersey Ave SE.

SWAT teams are currently conducting a search.

The manhunt is in progress outside the Illume Apartment Building in Navy Yard, Washington, DC, following a sighting of a man fleeing on foot into the building’s yard from the 900 block of 1st SE.

Message from ILLUME: We urgently need to inform you that the police have notified us about the presence of an armed suspect in the vicinity. It is imperative that all residents remain indoors and secure their doors until further notice. We will promptly update you as soon as we receive confirmation that the area is safe.

No suspects have been identified, and there has been no information immediately released regarding any arrests.
