Three individuals are facing charges in relation to a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old and injuries to another individual.

Tre-marion Jones, aged 20, from Cape Girardeau, was charged on Wednesday, February 28, with first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree assault, and resisting arrest.

Zhamius Smith, aged 20, from Caruthersville, was charged with hindering prosecution and resisting a lawful stop.

Yaunique Cain, aged 21, from Cape Girardeau, was charged with tampering with physical evidence.

All three individuals are currently being held without bond.

Cape Girardeau Police have confirmed one death and one non-life-threatening injury arising from a shooting occurrence on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased victim has been identified as Kemari Childress.

Childress held the position of pharmacy technician at CVS.

The Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad has been activated to lead the investigation.

Authorities answered a call at 2:30 p.m. near CVS Pharmacy on William Street, where they encountered two individuals with gunshot injuries.

Cape Girardeau Police patrolman Bobby Newton confirmed that both victims were taken to a nearby hospital. A witness recounted hearing at least six shots fired as she exited a nearby establishment.

William Street underwent temporary closure for the investigation but was reopened by approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

During the inquiry, the Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad identified a person of interest.

Cape Girardeau Police reported that around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, officers located a vehicle believed to be occupied by the suspect.

They attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle near Woodbine Place and Themis Street. However, the suspect failed to comply, prompting a pursuit.

After a brief chase, the vehicle halted in the roadway near N. Pindwood Lane and Whitener Street, leading three individuals to flee from the vehicle. Law enforcement managed to detain two of the individuals, who are presently held pending formal charges, while the third person evaded capture.
