Suspect with knife wounded after officer-involved shooting at Jackson Memorial hospital in Miami

Authorities confirmed that a shooting involving a Miami police officer took place Friday morning near Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Officers pursued a man wielding a knife towards the hospital before the shooting transpired.

A spokesperson for the Miami Police Department verified that officers encountered the suspect between Seventh and Eighth Avenues following a report of a “violent dispute” between two individuals.

The spokesman mentioned that the suspect subsequently fled towards the hospital before being captured.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman stated that one officer discharged their weapon, hitting the suspect at least once.

Despite some road closures, authorities assured that individuals can still access the hospital for medical needs or if they are employees.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will handle the investigation into the shooting.
