Showcase Cinema de Lux Liverpool on lockdown after staff member ‘had gun aimed at her’

Emergency services rushed to a cinema following reports of a shooting. Multiple armed police vehicles were observed outside the Showcase Cinema de Lux Liverpool, located near the Croxteth area of the city.

A staff member reportedly mentioned that a gun was “aimed at her” within the popular cinema.

Merseyside Police issued an appeal on social media just before 9:09 pm, urging people to stay away from the venue.

Forensic teams are currently on-site, placing several evidence markers near the cinema’s side door, according to our reporter at Liverpool Echo.

Officers are utilizing torches to examine the pavement in the vicinity of the cinema.

Witnesses have reported observing an individual, believed to be armed with a gun, both inside and outside a newsagents approximately one mile from the cinema tonight.

Images from the scene depict numerous police cars and armed officers securing the perimeter outside the cinema.

Small groups of individuals are being escorted from the building to their cars.

A police helicopter has been spotted hovering above the cinema, and roads in the vicinity are closed as the investigation unfolds.

A spokesperson for Showcase Cinemas said: “We are aware of an incident at our cinema and surrounding area in Liverpool. The safety and welfare of our staff and customers is always our number one priority and we can confirm no one was injured. We would like to thank our team members and the local police for their swift responses to this active investigation.”
