34-year-old Shawntai Adkins shot and killed by her husband Shantell Adkins in Daytona Beach

A woman who had a dispute with her husband sought assistance from her parents on Thursday.

Tragically, before they could reach her residence, the husband used a rifle to fatally shoot her and then turned the weapon on himself, according to police.

Authorities received the distressing call around 6:37 p.m. on Thursday, directing them to 530 Fulton St., where Shantell Adkins, 35, took the life of his wife, Shawntai Adkins, 34, before ending his own life, as per police reports.

Shawntai Adkins was discovered near the entrance, and her passing was confirmed at the location.

Shantell Adkins was located in the front yard and subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention, as per law enforcement.

The spouse had contacted her parents, who rushed to the residence to offer assistance.

However, at a certain juncture, the husband retrieved a rifle and discharged it, injuring her. Subsequently, he inflicted a gunshot wound to his own chest.

The inquiry is presently ongoing.
