George Washington University has initiated a shelter-in-place protocol as a precautionary measure.

This follows the escape of a patient, identified as a homicide suspect named Christopher Haynes, from police custody at GW Hospital.

The incident occurred in the 900 block of 23rd St Northwest at approximately 3:30 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

He stands at 6 feet tall, weighs 205 pounds, has brown eyes, and sports shoulder-length dreadlocks.

At the time of his escape, he was dressed in a white suit, a white T-shirt, grey shorts, and one red shoe.

Importantly, Haynes was not handcuffed, and he was in police custody on homicide charges. If anyone encounters Haynes, it is strongly advised not to interact with him but to promptly dial 911.
