False report of an active shooter at Pepperdine University – Calabasas Campus

LASD Received at least 2 911 calls reporting an active shooter on campus at Pepperdine. The callers said they did not hear shots or see a shooter.

Pepperdine University – Calabasas Campus issued a automated call notifying of an active shooter presence on our Calabasas campus and instructing individuals to “run, hide, fight.”

However, there was a subsequent period of 10-15 minutes where no further information was provided before clarifying that it had been a mistake.

No active shooter at Calabasas campus, call to community was an error, according to Pepperdine automated message. “Please resume normal operations,” the automated message said.

The first call to the community went out at 9:47 p.m., stating there was an active shooter on the Calabasas campus. “Run, hide, fight,” the automated message said.

The second message to the community went out at 10:02 p.m., stating the threat was an error, and to resume normal operations.

The LASD received a minimum of two 911 calls indicating the presence of an active shooter at Pepperdine campus.

The callers mentioned that they had not heard any gunfire or observed a shooter.

This threat for Pepperdine comes one day after the shooting at UNC, killing one faculty member.
