Victims shot and killed near the University of Cincinnati identified

On July 1, 2024, at approximately 0245 hours, District Four officers were dispatched to 306 E. University Avenue for a report of four people shot.

Upon arrival, officers encountered four individuals with gunshot wounds.

After the scene was stabilized, the Cincinnati Fire Department responded, assessed the victims, and began life-saving measures.

Shawn McDaniel Jr, a 22-year-old male, was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Shawn McDaniel, a 45-year-old male and the father of Shawn McDaniel Jr., was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Laurenz Nixon, a 21-year-old male, was also transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The fourth victim was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is in serious but stable condition.

The investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit is ongoing.
