16-year-old Brian Moody killed in officer-involved shooting in Negley Place

Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal reported that 15-year-old Brian Moody was killed in an officer-involved shooting.

Officers encountered a group of people in the 500 block of Negley Place around 8 p.m.

One individual fled and appeared to have a weapon.

When this person turned and pointed what looked like a weapon at the officers, two officers fired. Medical aid was given until medics arrived, and the individual was taken to a local hospital, where they later died.

During the initial investigation, Chief Afzal stated that a weapon was found at the scene and that officers had responded to the individual’s actions.

Police had been monitoring the area due to recent block parties, and several vehicles at the scene were found with weapons inside.

No further information about the deceased individual was released.

Dayton Police issued a statement, which reads in part:

It is early on in the investigation and we ask for the public’s patience while it is being conducted. Dayton Police Professional Standards Bureau will conduct a separate administrative investigation.
