32-year-old Tavares McFadden killed in Sumter drive-by shooting

SUMTER, SC (May 27, 2024) – A driver is dead and a passenger injured following a shooting this morning at Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive.

Officers responded to a shots fired call at about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection.

Initial information indicates the victims’ car was stopped at the traffic signal on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove up alongside and shots were fired. The white vehicle then sped away on South Guignard Drive.

A 32-year-old driver and a passenger, 28, were found near the area where the victims’ car crashed.

The driver, who has been identified as Tavares McFadden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

The incident remains under investigation.
