Derrick Nicholls found shot to death inside vehicle on I-295

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Homicide Unit is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place on Saturday night.

JSO reported that around 8:10 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had swerved off the road into the tree line at the Interstate 295 Northbound and Interstate 10 interchange.

Police found Derrick Nicholls shot inside a car when they arrived at the scene.

Firefighters took him to the hospital, but he died there.

Police are investigating the shooting and who might have been involved. They don’t know exactly what happened yet.

The classification of the incident is pending as authorities strive to ascertain the precise location of the shooting. The investigation is underway, with JSO collaborating with the Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office.
