On Monday night, an 11-year-old boy was tragically shot and killed at a residence in Paulding County, as confirmed by authorities.

Around 11:15 p.m., Paulding deputies received a report of a firearm assault at a residence situated off Ruth Way, within a residential neighborhood close to Ga. 92.

Upon arrival, deputies administered medical assistance to the boy, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries later, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

Paulding County Coroner Lindsey Eberhart identified him as Zander Whatley on Tuesday.

The motive remains unclear, and deputies did not disclose any information regarding potential suspects.

Whatley, who would have turned 12 in a few weeks, according to Eberhart, was remembered fondly by his mother, Shareeda Dorsey, in a Facebook post.

Dorsey expressed the immense difficulty of losing her son, stating, “I’m just trying to process my baby not being here anymore and comforting his siblings who miss him dearly.”

The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation is still in its preliminary phase and that detectives are actively working to gather leads.
