Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Deputy shot and killed 20-year-old Warren Burton in Ponchatoula

Ponchatoula – Louisiana State Police investigators continue the investigation into a deputy-involved shooting that occurred yesterday evening on Madison Lane in Ponchatoula.

The initial investigation revealed that Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) Deputies responded to a call for service at a residence in the 14000 block of Madison Lane.

While attempting to serve an Order of Protective Custody, deputies made contact with 20-year-old Warren Burton of Ponchatoula.

During the encounter, Burton armed himself with a firearm. While negotiating with Burton to disarm himself, he pointed the firearm toward the deputies.

One deputy discharged their duty weapon, striking Burton. As a result, Burton was pronounced deceased on the scene.

No deputies were injured during this incident.

Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is processing the scene.

This investigation remains ongoing.
