Lockdown at Central Washington University lifted after shooting nearby

Update: A witness who observed the shots fired shared their perspective on the incident with NonStop Local during an interview.

The witness recounted being at the Jack in the Box around 12:25 p.m. when they heard three rapid gunshots and subsequently spotted an individual carrying a firearm running across the restaurant’s parking lot.

After the incident, the witness sought refuge at a nearby library just before it went into lockdown.

The Ellensburg Police Department has confirmed that all local schools will dismiss at their regular times, with buses arriving approximately 15 minutes later than usual.

Central Washington University has lifted the shelter-in-place advisory, but law enforcement will persist in their investigation.

If you notice any suspicious behavior, please dial 911. Morgan Middle School has also concluded its lockdown, as confirmed by a local parent.

The Ellensburg Police Department emphasizes that the suspect remains at large, and officers continue their active search efforts.

Gunshots have reportedly been heard near Central Washington University.

Ellensburg Police stated that the incident occurred close to University Way and N. Main St., near the Jack in the Box, urging people to avoid the area between Water Street and C Street, stay indoors, and secure their doors.

Following the gunfire around 12:15 p.m., CWU issued an emergency alert, indicating that the perpetrator remains at large.

The investigation is ongoing, with the suspect described as a male wearing a purple hoodie.

Ellensburg Police confirmed that the search for the suspect is ongoing as of 2 p.m., promising regular updates on social media every 15-20 minutes.
