On Tuesday night, a shooting occurred along I-391 in Chicopee, resulting in one fatality and one injury.

According to Massachusetts State Police spokesperson David Procopio, troopers were alerted to a suspected car-to-car shooting on I-391 south in Chicopee around 8:45 p.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered that two individuals from one of the vehicles had independently sought treatment at Baystate Medical Center.

The deceased victim, a 35-year-old Guyton Winspeare, underwent surgery but succumbed to his injuries later on.

Detectives conducted interviews with three other individuals who were in the vehicle at the time: the surviving victim and two passengers.

Procopio highlighted that an initial investigation suggested that the victim’s SUV was traveling south on I-391, near the 2.6-mile marker, when another vehicle approached the victim’s driver’s side and gunfire erupted from the second vehicle into the SUV.

“The occupants of the SUV attempted to signal for assistance, but as no passing vehicles stopped, they proceeded to drive themselves to the hospital,” he elaborated.

According to Jim Leydon, the spokesperson for the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, the surviving occupants of the SUV have been uncooperative, compelling investigators to locate the crime scene independently.

Evidence was found on the highway, and the case continues to be investigated by State Police detectives from the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
