Julian Omar Cubillos arrested and charged for shooting death of 3-year-old Kyron Zarco in Athens

Channel3 NOW has verified that police have arrested one individual in connection with the tragic death of 3-year-old Kyron Zarco in Athens, Georgia.

However, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are actively pursuing additional arrests.

Due to the ongoing nature of the situation, many details are being withheld until all suspects are apprehended. Julian Omar Cubillos was taken into custody overnight.

While his precise role is unclear, his arrest is related to the shooting.

He faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and violation of criminal street gang statutes.

Police responded to a heartbreaking incident on Friday evening where a 3-year-old boy lost his life in a triple shooting at a mobile home park in Athens.

Athens-Clarke County Police were called to Hallmark Mobile Home Park on Spring Valley Road shortly after 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that three individuals, including two children, had been shot.

The adult and one of the children received medical attention for injuries that were not life-threatening at the hospital.

Unfortunately, police confirmed that the other child wounded by gunfire succumbed to their injuries. Shanita Smith identified her 3-year-old son, Kyron Zarco, as the victim of the shooting.

Her 9-year-old son, who had just celebrated his birthday the day before, was also injured but is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Currently, one suspect is in police custody, and a $1,000 reward is being offered for any information that aids in the apprehension of the shooter.
