4 Sonoma County Sheriff deputies injured in shooting after being fired at by suspect

On 03/04/2024 at approximately 12:10 am, Sonoma County Sheriff deputies were involved in an officer-involved shooting in unincorporated west Santa Rosa after responding to a person brandishing a rifle.

Deputies arrived and found the suspect, who then led them on a pursuit.

During the pursuit, the suspect stopped, fired shots at the deputies, and continued the pursuit.

Deputies returned fire and, ultimately, the suspect crashed the vehicle he was driving.

Four deputies were injured: one with a gunshot wound to the leg, two with injuries to their hands, and one deputy has a head injury. The deputy with a head injury is in critical but stable condition.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has invoked the critical incident protocol. Santa Rosa Police Department will take over the investigation.

More information will be released as soon as it is available. Bodyworn camera footage will be released in accordance with State law.
