1 killed after shooting near CVS Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau

2 in custody as Major Case Squad investigates.

Cape Girardeau Police have confirmed one fatality and one non-life-threatening injury resulting from a shooting incident on Tuesday afternoon.

At present, the identities of the victims are being withheld. The Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad has been mobilized to conduct an investigation.

Law enforcement responded to a call at 2:30 p.m. near CVS Pharmacy on William Street, where they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds.

Cape Girardeau Police patrolman Bobby Newton stated that both victims were transported to a local hospital.

A witness reported hearing at least six shots fired as she was leaving a nearby establishment. William Street was temporarily shut down for the investigation but reopened around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Throughout the inquiry, the Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad identified a person of interest.

Cape Girardeau Police reported that around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, officers located a vehicle believed to be occupied by the suspect.

They attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near Woodbine Place and Themis Street, initiating a pursuit when the suspect failed to comply.

After a brief chase, the vehicle came to a stop in the roadway close to N. Pindwood Lane and Whitener Street, prompting three individuals to flee from the vehicle.

Police managed to apprehend two of the individuals, who are currently held pending formal charges, while the third person escaped.
