On Tuesday, authorities in Brevard County apprehended a Seffner resident accused of fatally shooting a driver during a road rage incident on January 26 in Riverview.

Jorge Ramirez, 20, was identified by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office as the individual allegedly responsible for the shooting, which occurred in front of the victim’s family.

Bryan Proenza, 34, was driving with his fiancée and two young children when they crossed paths with Ramirez near Rose Lane and Baytree Drive.

According to court documents, Ramirez pursued the family’s SUV and collided with it three times. Ramirez then brandished a firearm and discharged it at the vehicle, as per HCSO.

Proenza sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Almost a month following the incident, Brevard County deputies apprehended Ramirez based on the HCSO warrant.

He was accused of three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and potentially faces further charges.

“Our hearts ache for this family who endured the loss of a cherished member due to needless violence,” stated Sheriff Chad Chronister in a released statement. “Presently, our detectives are diligently reconstructing the events leading up to this tragic shooting. As this investigation progresses, we encourage anyone who may have observed the incident to step forward and provide assistance.”
