16-year-old Maleak Sweets killed in New Haven shooting

In New Haven, a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot, as reported by the police. The New Haven police were prompted by a ShotSpotter alert around 7:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Newhall Street.
Simultaneously, dispatch received calls indicating a person had been shot at the intersection of Newhall and Bassett Streets.
Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered 16-year-old Maleak Sweets on Newhall Street between Bassett and Huntington Streets.
Sweets was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, according to the police.
