Lockdown at Viera High School lifted after false report of student with weapon on campus

The lockdown at Viera High School, situated at 6103 Stadium Pkwy in Melbourne, FL, has been lifted after a false report of a student with a weapon on campus.

Message from Principal Heather LeGate:

I am reaching out to inform you of the events that transpired on campus today. We received a report that there was a student with a weapon on campus.

I immediately placed the school in a lockdown and we began investigating the accusation. Once we identified the student in question and located them, I downgraded the lockdown to a shelter in place to ensure students remained with adults but could continue their learning.

BCSO was quick to arrive and assist with the investigation.

The student was searched and no weapon was found so we were able to resume normal activities.
