A building at GE’s Appliance Park was evacuated on Thursday morning following a “misunderstanding” inside Building 5 that led to false reports of an active shooter at the facility.

The initial report came in around 11:30 a.m., prompting GE employees to receive text alerts advising them to evacuate or take cover.

Although several employees from Building 5 were evacuated, Louisville Metro Police later confirmed on social media that the reported threat was false.

GE Appliances spokesperson Julie Wood explained that the situation arose from an employee mistaking a different equipment alarm for the active shooter alarm.

LMPD officers promptly responded, and fire crews cleared the scene shortly before noon.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
