False active shooter threat at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga

A spokesperson from Erlanger has provided the following update:

Erlanger Baroness Hospital was placed on a Security Alert/Lockdown after receiving a notice about a possible active shooter. It was quickly determined that this call was false. We are testing a new security system, but it is unrelated to this incident. We want to thank our wonderful partners in law enforcement, the Chattanooga Police Department & Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, for their quick response and dedication to protecting our patients, staff, and visitors.

We are currently in the process of gathering additional information about the threat. Count on us to keep you informed as we receive more details.

We are in the process of gathering more information regarding the significant police presence at the Erlanger Baroness campus on 3rd Street in downtown Chattanooga.

Chattanooga Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Victor Miller has affirmed via email that there is no active shooter at Erlanger. Sgt. Miller is currently working to verify additional details beyond this information.

Numerous viewers have contacted us, reporting that the hospital sent out a text alert regarding an “active threat.”

However, law enforcement emphasizes that there is no active shooter at Erlanger.
