A series of events on Sunday afternoon sent shockwaves through a Forest Park neighborhood. On Tuesday, neighbors vividly recalled the deafening gunshots that echoed through the air before a jarring crash on Bartlett Road.

Forest Park Police believe the shooting transpired at the intersection of Watts Road and Bartlett Road, prompting the victim to frantically reverse his car, ultimately colliding with a parked car and a mailbox before coming to a screeching halt in the middle of the road.

The scene on Bartlett Road remains largely unchanged, with the exception of the victim’s car being towed away after the crime scene was released on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, the victims were identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Zuniga and his 23-year-old cousin Edwin Dominguez.

Forest Park Police Chief Brandon Criss stated that while his detectives are still investigating the motive, it appears that this was a “drug deal gone wrong.”

“After both victims were shot, they collided with another vehicle,” explained Chief Criss. To ensure the safety of residents, Chief Criss stated that they are intensifying patrols in the neighborhood. He disclosed that this is their second and third homicide of the year.

As of Tuesday evening, he confirmed that his detectives had not yet identified a suspect but expressed confidence in their ability to bring justice to these families. The chief added that his team had solved their first homicide, which occurred earlier this summer. Chief Criss also mentioned that the GBI is assisting with the crime scene forensics of this double homicide and the autopsies of both victims.
