An accidental shooting in Hopewell leaves 46-year-old Charmel Dawn Mason dead
Benjamin Tyler Mason, a 19-year-old Hopewell resident, was apprehended and faced charges in connection with the incident.
On Saturday, October 28, 2023, at around 3:28 P.M., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Danville Street in response to a reported shooting.
At the scene, officers discovered a female victim who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Benjamin Tyler Mason, a 19-year-old resident of Hopewell, was apprehended and charged with the misdemeanor offense of Reckless Handling of a Firearm.
Mr. Mason was subsequently transported to Riverside Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
The victim has been identified as Charmel Dawn Mason, a 46-year-old resident of Hopewell.
The Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit has launched an inquiry into this incident.
