School Lockdown

A social media post that led to the lockdown of several schools in the Minocqua area has been confirmed as a hoax.

Last Friday, three schools in the region – Lakeland Union High School, Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk school district, and Arbor Vitae-Woodruff school district – were placed on lockdown around 9 a.m.

This followed a report received by the Minocqua Police Department, indicating that a student from Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk school district might have possessed a firearm.

This information emerged after the student had posted a video showing them holding a gun and making threatening statements the previous night.

Upon examination of the student’s belongings, no firearm was found, but two knives were discovered. Additionally, another student was implicated during the investigation.

Comprehensive searches were conducted across all school grounds, and the police subsequently cleared the campuses.
