A letter sent to families of the Hempfield Area School District informed them that Hempfield Area High School was placed on lockdown on Monday.

This precautionary measure was taken due to the discovery that two students were in possession of a firearm.

The district assures that these weapons have been safely secured, and there is no evidence of any other weapons or malicious intent.

As a precautionary measure, the district has decided to conduct thorough searches of both students and the building.

This process is being carried out in collaboration with the Pennsylvania State Police and local law enforcement agencies.

Despite these precautions, students were dismissed from school at the regular dismissal time.
