South Portland High School is said to be under lockdown as a result of an ongoing inquiry.

According to school authorities, the current “situation” is managed, and every student is secure. There have been no reported injuries.

Law enforcement is present, and an investigation is in progress.

Details regarding the event at the school have not yet been disclosed by school officials. In the meantime, a separate incident involving South Portland High School on Wednesday led to a police intervention.

While on a school-sanctioned hiking excursion, a student, who is restricted from being on the South Portland High School premises, made contact with another student, as outlined in a letter sent to parents.

The teacher was promptly informed and subsequently alerted the school. Following this, the school authorities contacted the police.

South Portland law enforcement arrived at the location of the group and stayed with the students as they made their way back to school. School officials affirm that there was never a point at which students and staff felt threatened.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
