Small plane carrying 5 people crashes on Herrick Hollow and Lake Cecil Road in Masonville

UPDATE: The aircraft has been found east of Pomeroy Corners Road and north of Lake Cecil Road in Masonville.

Tragically, all five individuals on board have passed away.

Severe weather was reported in the area earlier in the day, but it is currently unknown if it contributed to the crash.

ORIGINAL:

The Binghamton National Weather Service issued a spot forecast request around 2:30 PM today for an aircraft search in the Masonville area.

According to the Catskill Region Fire Rescue Incidents Page, numerous calls began coming in around 2 PM reporting a plane crash on Herrick Hollow and Lake Cecil Road near Pine Swamp.

A firefighter witnessed the plane go down near their house.

A command post has been set up, and a piece of the aircraft was found on Richardson Hill Road.

The Piper fixed-wing aircraft has a capacity of six people, but there is no information on the occupants yet. Two more ambulances and a tech team have been requested.

The Air Force is in contact with the county and may have a location for the plane.

The aircraft was en route to West Virginia with five people on board. Drones are currently in operation. Lifenet was assisting earlier but has since left the area.

Park rangers are also on the scene.
