1 pilot killed after 2 planes collide and crash during Beja Air Show in Portugal

Two Yakovlev Yak-52 aircraft from the Spanish-Portuguese Yakstars formation team collided during the Beja Air Show in Portugal.

One aircraft crashed, resulting in the pilot’s death, while the other managed to land safely.

The Yakstars is an aerobatic display team that flies six warbird Yak-52s in precise formations and thrilling aerobatic maneuvers.

The Yakovlev Yak-52, a Soviet primary trainer aircraft, first flew in 1976 and was produced in Romania by Aerostar from 1977 to 1998.
