Victim killed in Parham Bridges Park shooting identified as Melvin McNair Jr

Jackson police have detained a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of an individual at a park.

The shooting occurred at Parham Bridges Park in the 5000 block of Old Canton Road on Wednesday, May 15.

Detective Tommie Brown disclosed that the victim, identified as Melvin McNair, Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown further mentioned that McNair’s vehicle, a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was reported stolen.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade announced Wednesday afternoon that officers apprehended the suspect following a pursuit within the capital city.

The pursuit concluded on Ridgewood Road, in front of a Jackson Fire Department precinct, when the suspect collided the GMC Sierra into another vehicle.

The identity of the suspect remains undisclosed.

No information regarding the condition of the individual in the second vehicle has been provided.
