Mississippi Hazlehurst High School students Trenarius Dixon and La’Shayia Stewart shot and killed on Interstate 55 in Copiah County

The identities of two teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a shooting incident on Mother’s Day along a Mississippi interstate have been disclosed.

The occurrence took place on Interstate 55 South in Hazlehurst, close to the Gallman exit.

Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley has identified the victims as 17-year-old Trenarius Dixon and 17-year-old La’Shayia Stewart. Both teenagers were students at Hazlehurst High School.

Sheriff Swilley mentioned that Dixon was a senior student on the brink of graduating in just a few days.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Early Sunday morning, it was reported that two individuals were purportedly shot and fatally wounded on Interstate 55 in Copiah County.

The incident unfolded on I-55 South in Hazlehurst, near the Gallman exit, leading to a brief closure of all southbound lanes.

The lanes were subsequently reopened around 6:30 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, observers noted multiple bullet holes in the windows of a vehicle believed to have been occupied by the two individuals.

According to Bailey Martin, the Department of Public Safety Spokesperson, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was conducting an inquiry at the scene, with the Mississippi Highway Patrol providing assistance.

Martin confirmed that two individuals were discovered deceased at the scene.
