Authorities report that a young child was tragically killed in a shooting incident at a residence in Warwick on Thursday morning.

Warwick Police Department confirms that the suspected perpetrator was discovered deceased inside the residence, having sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A significant police presence congregated outside a home on Frawley Street in Warwick following reports of a disturbance received around 8:24 a.m. Police cruisers lined the street.

Mayor Frank Picozzi stated in a post on X shortly before 10 a.m. that the situation no longer posed a risk to public safety.

He acknowledged the significant police presence in the Warwick Vets area and assured the community that while he couldn’t provide specific details at the moment, there was no ongoing threat to public safety. Picozzi emphasized that the incident was under investigation, and further information would be provided by the police at a later time.

Lippitt Elementary School reported that their shelter-in-place protocol was initiated at 8:35 a.m. and lasted approximately 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, Veterans Middle School notified parents of their shelter-in-place status due to police activity in the area.

The police department declined to provide further details at this time.
