3 officers shot while responding to a barricade situation in Southeast D.C.

Channel3 NOW has learned from multiple sources that three police officers were shot while responding to a barricade situation in Southeast D.C. early Wednesday.

The incident unfolded in the 5000 block of Hanna Place Southeast, near Benning Road and the Maryland border, prompting a swift response from D.C. police.

Shots were reportedly fired from inside a residence, as captured on surveillance camera footage.

As of 8:50 a.m., a multitude of police cars and emergency vehicles remained at the scene, with roads cordoned off by yellow police tape.

Nearby, children made their way to a school at 46th Place and Benning Road SE amidst the commotion.

Additionally, a large, black vehicle resembling an armored truck was observed entering the restricted area.

The injured officers were transported to a hospital, though details regarding the extent of their injuries have not been disclosed.

At present, it remains uncertain whether anyone else sustained injuries in the incident.

There are indications that a man armed with a rifle may be barricaded inside an apartment.

Helicopter and K9 units are assisting the scene.

No suspects have been identified, and there has been no information immediately released regarding any arrests.
