During an incident on Tuesday afternoon in east Charlotte, one teenager lost their life, and another sustained injuries, as reported by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The shooting occurred approximately at 2:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Audrey Street near Eastway Drive.

Emergency responders confirmed the death of an individual at the incident site, identified as 17-year-old Daikwan Jedarren Deese by the CMPD.

Another person, reported to be Nicolio Mobley’s grandson, Deontre Wilson Jr., a 15-year-old student at Garinger High School, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, according to officials.

Mobley recounted being informed that her grandson was walking home after school when individuals in a black car, wearing masks, opened fire.

This information, however, has not been verified or corroborated by CMPD.

According to Mobley, her grandson sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his leg and is currently undergoing surgery, with expectations for a successful recovery.

The distressing call about her grandson’s shooting was particularly heart-wrenching for Mobley, who was uncertain about his condition and whether he had survived.

While addressing the crime scene, CMPD Maj. Torri Tellis emphasized the ongoing challenge of youth-related gun violence in the community.

The primary issue is the accessibility of firearms to juveniles, whether obtained through car break-ins or due to inadequate firearm security.

The consistent message from law enforcement over the past two years remains: secure your firearms and avoid leaving them unattended in vehicles.

As of the current investigation stage, authorities believe the shooting was not accidental and are actively seeking suspects and potential witnesses involved in the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to cooperate with investigators.
