The Evansville police are currently probing a fatal shooting that occurred on East Riverside Drive on Monday morning. Authorities received numerous calls reporting gunfire in the vicinity around 5 a.m.

Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement discovered a man on the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 34-year-old Jerry Hale on Tuesday.

Hale sustained solely the gunshot wound, and authorities confirm he was deceased prior to their arrival.

The Evansville Police Department (EPD) received a description of a potential suspect, now identified as 32-year-old Christopher Boyd.

EPD Sergeant Anna Gray reports that officers are actively pursuing Boyd, seeking assistance from the public in locating the shooter.

Officials inform us that the city’s violent crime statistics decreased last year, making it disheartening to witness the new year commence with a homicide.

Sergeant Gray expressed frustration and disappointment, emphasizing the dedicated efforts of law enforcement despite the heartbreaking news on the first day.

The Evansville Police Department (EPD) states that an autopsy for Hale will be scheduled later this week, and the Vanderburgh County Coroner will officially determine the cause of death upon its completion.

EPD notes that New Year’s Eve is consistently hectic for them, with a surge in both shots-fired incidents and incidents involving intoxicated drivers.

Authorities urge the public to contact their detective office with any information that may aid in the ongoing investigation.
