14-year-old Johnnie McClendon shot and killed inside a home in North Charlotte

Records from Mecklenburg County jail indicate that Major has been arrested on at least three other occasions since May 2022.

In connection to the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy in north Charlotte over the weekend, a 19-year-old has been taken into custody.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that Johnnie McClendon was fatally shot in the head around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday within a residence on Keswick Avenue, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

On Tuesday morning, two days later, Myhijee Major turned himself in. After being interviewed by detectives, he was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Records from Mecklenburg County jail indicate that Major has been arrested on at least three other occasions since May 2022.

McClendon, a member of the basketball team at Garinger High School in Charlotte, was tragically lost.

The school’s principal conveyed a message expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to his family and friends.

The school community requests that thoughts and prayers be directed towards Johnnie’s family, friends, as well as students and staff.

It was noted by the police that Major has been handed over to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
