28-year-old Daniel Payan found shot to death in the 4200 Block of East Fountain Way in Fresno
After the shooting, the shooter fled the area.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 7:20 a.m., Fresno Police Department and Fresno Fire Department personnel responded to the 4200 Block of East Fountain Way to check the welfare of a subject on the ground.
Upon arrival, 28-year-old Daniel Payan was found unresponsive, face down in the parking lot. EMS personnel transported Payan to CRMC where it was determined he had a gunshot wound injury to the chest.
Payan was pronounced deceased at 7:50 a.m. by hospital personnel.
Investigators learned Payan is a member of our unhoused community and was involved in a disturbance with an unknown subject in the parking lot, where he was shot.
After the shooting, the shooter fled the area. Detectives are currently reviewing video footage from nearby businesses and identifying witnesses who were present during the shooting.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to please call the Fresno Police Department. This is the 27th violent felonious murder for the year, with three DUI “Watson Advisement” murders.
