Tacoma police are conducting an investigation into a double homicide following a quintuple shooting that claimed the lives of two individuals early Sunday morning.

Tacoma Police Department (TPD) officers were called to the 2700 block of 6th Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. in response to reports of multiple gunshots fired within a business.

The shooting incident occurred within The Alleycat Patio & Lounge. Detective William Muse, the Public Information Officer for TPD, informed Channel3 News that this was not a random act of violence.

Muse indicated that they suspect the assailant had a prior interaction with one of the victims shot inside the bar, while the other four victims were innocent bystanders.

The purported perpetrator of the shooting surrendered to Tacoma Police Headquarters at approximately 4:30 p.m., as per police reports.

According to police, the nature of the interaction leading to the shooting remains unclear, including whether it involved an argument. However, multiple gunshots were fired within the establishment. Upon arrival, officers discovered four individuals with gunshot wounds.

Regrettably, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the remaining three were transported to local hospitals with severe injuries.

As the investigation unfolded, authorities became aware of a fifth gunshot victim, fortunately without life-threatening injuries. Tragically, a second victim has since passed away due to their injuries.

One of the two victims killed in shooting identified as Monic Lashaye Swan.

A woman employed at a nearby bar expressed deep emotion upon learning about the incident at The Alleycat Patio & Lounge. She lamented the tragedy, emphasizing that the establishment is popular among local residents.

She conveyed her sadness that individuals lost their lives in a venue where people typically gather to enjoy themselves. She voiced a weariness over the constant concern for safety while trying to find solace in an evening out, highlighting the distressing presence of firearms in situations where they shouldn’t be.

These sentiments were shared by Carlie Lubbes Meyer.

Law enforcement reported that the individual suspected of the shooting was apprehended without resistance and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree assault.
