On Thursday, an armed individual was apprehended outside the Jewish Federation of Detroit’s facility in Bloomfield Township. The organization asserts that the incident was not motivated by antisemitism.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, Bloomfield Township police apprehended an armed individual in the parking lot of the Max M. Fisher Federation Building.

The building subsequently went into lockdown, though the exact time is unspecified. The federation indicated that the individual may have been going through a mental health crisis.

Moreover, after a police interview, it was determined that the incident was not driven by antisemitism.

The building was effectively secured during the event, and no employees were harmed.

“We are deeply grateful for the prompt action taken by the Bloomfield Township Police, and we commend the efforts of our Jewish Community Security Inc. team,” stated the federation.

As of 12:50 p.m., police vehicles were still present outside the building. Currently, there seems to be no imminent danger to the public.

Further details were not available at the time of writing. Authorities were anticipated to release additional information later on Thursday afternoon.
