Update: Sean Hughes, a 19-year-old from Morrisville, who was a person of interest in the shooting death of a 14-year-old Bensalem boy, has taken his own life.

Authorities reported that Hughes died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Marysville, Ohio. While Hughes was never formally charged in the murder, his vehicle was identified as being involved in the Tuesday shooting.

He had been under investigation regarding the Halloween killing of Peter Romano, 14, who was with a group of juveniles at a Bensalem strip mall when someone opened fire, injuring Romano and two others.

On Halloween night, two communities in the Philadelphia region experienced frightening incidents. Gunshots caused trick-or-treaters to scatter in New Castle County, while in Bensalem, Bucks County, a tragic triple shooting occurred, resulting in the loss of 14-year-old Peter Romano’s life.

Two other teenagers are currently recuperating from their injuries.

The Bensalem Township School District issued a statement regarding Romano, a student within the district.

“Today, I write to address a deeply troubling and distressing incident that occurred within our community. It is with a heavy heart that I share that Pietro Romano, a 14-year-old Snyder student, was tragically killed last evening. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the affected individuals and their families during this incredibly challenging time,” part of the statement from the school district read.

According to Bensalem police, shots were fired from a vehicle parked near the shopping center, after which the driver fled northbound on Bristol Pike. Bensalem investigators have not yet provided a description of the vehicle or the suspect. The case is still under active investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
