18-year-old Jaqualen Dupree shot and killed in Wichita, suspect in custody

The investigators are still working to fully determine what led up to the fatal shooting.

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) has arrested an 18-year-old man from Wichita, on a charge of second-degree murder stemming from a shooting incident that fatally injured 18-year-old Jaqualen Dupree of Wichita.

At approximately 3:16 p.m. yesterday, Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the intersection of Broadway Ave and 3rd Street. Before the officer’s arrival, the calling party reported seeing a slow-moving vehicle hit a pole and several people exiting the vehicle and running in different directions.

Officers arrived on the scene and located Dupree inside the vehicle he was driving unconscious and with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers and EMS personnel began providing life-saving efforts. Dupree was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.

The investigators are still working to fully determine what led up to the fatal shooting.
