75-year-old Mark Brooner fatally shot his girlfriend Pauline Golliher before taking his own life
No other persons were located, and investigators determined there was no threat to the community.
On Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at around 9:30am, officers from the Albany Police Department responded to a request for a welfare check in the 1900 block of Washington Street SW, Albany.
Upon arrival, officers heard sounds of a disturbance and suspected gunshots inside the residence. Officers immediately entered the residence, locating one male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers attempted life saving measures on a female inside the residence, but she later died at the scene.
No other persons were located, and investigators determined there was no threat to the community.
Preliminary investigation revealed Mark Brooner, 75 years old of Albany fatally shot his longtime girlfriend, Pauline Golliher, 63 years old of Albany before taking his own life.
Albany Police is working with the Linn County District Attorney’s Office and the Linn County Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation continues.
