On September 19th at 12:31 a.m., the Kellogg Police Department and the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Woodland Park, Wallace, Idaho, in reference to a domestic violence incident involving a firearm.

The reporting party, Cassandra M. Darnell, female, 38 years old, Wallace, called 911 and stated she had been shot in the back by her husband, Jeremy M. Darnell, male, 43 years old, Wallace.

At the time law enforcement was dispatched, Shoshone County deputies were in the Cataldo area assisting fire personnel with a structure fire.

As a result, KPD responded from Kellogg as the closest unit and took command of the scene while deputies were en route.

Once on scene, law enforcement requested Cassandra Darnell (victim) to exit the residence and make contact with law enforcement in a safe location where medical personnel were on standby.

Once she was out of the residence, law enforcement attempted contact with Jeremy Darnell (suspect) who was still located inside of the residence and was not responding to commands.

A short time later, law enforcement found Jeremy Darnell deceased inside the residence by what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Information obtained during the investigation indicates that a history of domestic violence may have contributed to this shooting.

This investigation is ongoing, but we are confident that this was an attempted murder/suicide.
