10-year-old girl shot by her 15-year-old brother before shooting and killing himself in Troup County

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 15-year-old boy shot and injured his 10-year-old sister before shooting and killing himself in Troup County on Tuesday.

On June 4, 2024 at 10:41 PM, deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Bartley Road in regards to two juveniles, a male and a female that were shot.

Once deputies and other first responders arrived on scene, they found a 15 year old male suffering from a gunshot wound and a 10 year old female also suffering from a gunshot wound.

Life-saving measures immediately began on both of the victims until they were transported to Wellstar West Georgia Emergency Department.

Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division were notified and the investigation has revealed at this point that the 15 year old male, shot the 10 year old female, with a handgun, for unknown reasons. A few minutes later the male shot himself. The two victims were siblings.

The female was transported to an Atlanta area hospital for treatment and the male is in critical condition.

This investigation is on-going, nothing further to be released at this time.
