Michael Johnson Jr., aged 14, has been charged in the fatal shootings of two Dayton teenagers earlier this month near an elementary school.

The teenager is currently facing murder charges in Montgomery County Juvenile Court.

Around 7:20 p.m. on March 14, the shooting incident occurred in the 1600 block of Miami Chapel Road, close to Louise Troy Elementary School.

The individuals who lost their lives were identified as 17-year-old Javonta Morgan and 14-year-old Corey Prater by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Dayton police Lieutenant Steven Bauer reported that upon arrival, officers encountered a male administering CPR to Prater.

They took over CPR, and Prater was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Another victim, a 17-year-old male, was privately transported to a local hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries,” Bauer stated. Montgomery County Regional Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting.

One 911 caller described the scene, saying, “There was a group of kids out here playing and some little boy just got shot. I didn’t really see what happened. I heard the gunshots and now a little boy is laying right here in the field and everybody just scattered.”

According to dispatch records, a second 911 caller reported that a group of boys were outside fighting. The Dayton Police Department’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the shooting.
