A man who asserted he was armed with a bomb has been apprehended after scaling the Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica Pier early Monday afternoon.

The Santa Monica Police Department reported that the man informed bystanders of his claim before ascending the ride around 3:30 p.m.

Despite his continued shouts at officers below, his words were unintelligible due to external noise, exacerbated by his central position on the 85-foot tall ride.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., he seemed to engage in conversation with law enforcement while drawing closer to the pier, ultimately resulting in his arrest.”

The exact motivation behind his decision to climb the ride remains unclear.

Responders from the Santa Monica Fire Department were observed employing a ‘cherry picker’ truck, equipped with an elevated lift platform, to reach the riders who remained on the Ferris wheel.

Meanwhile, numerous spectators gathered on the pier, closely observing the unfolding incident.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
