He was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

SANTA ANA Ca, (July 10, 2024): The OC Sheriff’s Department is providing new details about the deadly incident involving two deaths and a police shooting that happened yesterday in San Juan Capistrano.

The victims are identified as:

  • Antoinette Gerdvil, 79, of San Juan Capistrano
  • Ronald Walter Gerdvil, 77, of San Juan Capistrano

The suspect is identified as:

Joseph Brandon Gerdvil, 41, of San Juan Capistrano

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 7:36 am, deputies were dispatched to a domestic assault near the 32000 block of Alipaz Street in the City of San Juan Capistrano.

Minutes later, they arrived at the scene and discovered a horrific sight: the decapitated and mutilated bodies of Ronald and Antoinette Gerdvil, along with their decapitated dog.

Just six minutes after finding the crime scene, dispatch received reports of a bloody man chasing a maintenance worker in the same neighborhood.

The suspect then stole the worker’s golf cart and fled. At 7:51 am, an officer spotted the suspect driving the cart near a bike trail. A minute later, a deputy from the initial homicide scene arrived and encountered the suspect.

This resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

After the officer-involved shooting, Sheriff’s deputies provided medical aid to the suspect until paramedics from Orange County Fire Authority arrived.

He was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The investigation revealed the suspect is the son of the two deceased victims, Ronald and Antoinette Gerdvil. Joseph Gerdvil will be booked on two counts of murder (CPC 187(a)) upon his medical release. Further charges may be added as the investigation progresses.
