One person injured in an officer-involved shooting on Park Avenue in Lynchburg
Authorities have reached out to Virginia State Police for additional support in the ongoing investigation.
The Lynchburg Police Department reported an officer-involved shooting and an ongoing assault.
The incident unfolded shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, with initial reports detailing the situation in the vicinity.
According to LPD, their officers were dispatched to the Miller Park area in response to a report of an assault in progress. One individual was subsequently taken to the hospital.
Following the initial response, LPD conducted an investigation that resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
“One individual sustained gunshot wounds and has been taken to Lynchburg General Hospital,” LPD confirmed.
The area near the entrance to Miller Park remains an active scene, with law enforcement present.
